The “ Hermandad ” (Brotherhood) program was created to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Many lost their houses, belongings, and even family members. As they return to severely damaged sectors of New Orleans and its suburbs they can't find food, water, or open stores

Our project provides them with basic necessities. Our location, the Verbo Church in Kenner , a suburb of the New Orleans , is particularly strategic for the area's Hispanic population. After the hurricane passed and we saw that God had protected the building, we decided to extend relief to the Hispanic and Afro-American community. We are now providing groceries, personal hygiene articles, children's food, water, juices, ice, etc.

The destruction in the city of New Orleans has been massive but equally great are the opportunities. We are experiencing something of what the prophet Joel said in Joel 2:11 "…For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?"

Other organizations and churches have joined in by providing us with basic necessities like food, water and ice to distribute to the needy.

The worst natural disaster in United States history rained chaos on New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina at the end of August.

This time Verbo Ministries--widely known for its relief and development work--is on both sides of the massive aid program. About four hundred members of Verbo churches in Kenner and Gretna , Louisiana — New Orleans suburbs—evacuated to safer areas and are being relocated as refugees.

On the other hand, Verbo leaders and volunteers are already placing families in housing and helping them find jobs in Houston , San Antonio , Austin and Dallas , Texas . Verbo relief efforts are being handled from a temporary disaster response headquarters in Houston.
