Ecuador Update

Ecuadorian Council

I just returned from a retreat of our National Council, which is made up of 6 men who work together to serve the leadership and the people in the 20 churches in Ecuador as well as those in Peru and Argentina. Though each local church determines its own direction there is a synergy that comes from working together to discover new ideas and perfect the quality of leadership that our congregations receive at all levels. What is most important is that the nature of Christ's love continue to grow among us and that all can receive the care they need to grow in maturity. I thought I would share a little about each one so that you might better know how to pray for us.

Bob Capaldi directs the council. He is a missionary from New York who has been working in Cuenca for 15 years. Before he came to Ecuador he had a used car and car wash business. He and his wife Lauren have two daughters who live in the States and two sons, Robert and Justin with them in Cuenca. Bob is gifted in bringing unity and harmony among us as well as insisting on high integrity especially in our leadership.

Diego Espinosa is a mechanical engineer who in addition to his church responsibilities is a part time professor at the best technical school in Ecuador. He and his wife Maria Mercedes have two primary age sons. Diego pastors the Mañosca church here in Quito and is especially gifted in prophetic ministry.

Patricio Teran presides over our North Quito congregation and was trained in business management. He is a gifted teacher and has developed a number of courses that we use in our leadership course study. He and his wife Bachita have three children, who are university students.

Fabian Basante is a meteorologist at the Quito airport and pastors the Verbo Valley congregation. He has a pastor's heart toward the people he serves and is gifted prophetically. He and his wife Mariana have two primary age children.

John Guido is a missionary from Arizona who has been serving with Bob Capaldi in Cuenca for 16 years. He is a health physicist by training and worked in nuclear power plants before coming to Ecuador. His wife Marilyn is a registered nurse and the both have been instrumental in developing our medical foundation clinic as well as in the growth of the Cuenca congregation. They have three children two of whom live in the United States. John's pastoral gifting as well as his deep desire to see people live an authentic life of community have been a great inspiration to me.

Please keep these folks in your prayers. We all desire that our efforts continue to help our congregations to grow in the love and peace of Jesus and continue to bring many more to know Him.

          Yours in Jesus love,
          Jim & Mary DeGolyer
