Our first work in the U.S. was actually a church started by a Guatemalan believer in New Orleans in 1978. They joined the Verbo family of churches in 1984. At that time, some leaders from that were sent from Guatemala to work with Verbo New Orleans for a time, subsequently moved to Miami and began our congregation there in 1985. After Miami was well established, another couple moved to West Palm Beach to start a regular congregation there in1991 after years of having an active home group there. In 1994, a small congregation in Ontario, California joined with us to form part of our outreach to the Hispanic communities in the US. And then in 1995, another group in New York City also became a part of the family. In 1996, members of our church in Monterrey, Mexico, began to minister regularly to a small group in San Antonio, Texas, and by the year's end, it was decided that a couple move to that city to formally begin a congregation there. Shortly thereafter another group in Fort Worth came inot relationship with us, and were formally "adopted" as part of the Verbo family the following year. And the same time, another group San Francisco also joined with us to receive oversight as well as implement our outreach into that area. The most recent addition is a congregation that was started in Portland, Oregon in March of 1998, and at the present time they are experiencing positive growth and reaching into the Hispanic population there. Also, the church in New Orleans started a second congregation in that city in January of this year. It seems the tremendous influz of Latin Americans into this country has brough a tremendous mission field into our very back yard, and who could be better equipped to minister tothem than their own countrymen who have caught the vision of God to reach and evangelaize the nations for His glory and honor!
